Best Vacuum Ever October 12, 2008 This vacuum is the best - it picks up everything!! The design makes it easy to maneuver and clean. I had an issue where it stopped sucking and realized the filter was clogged. As soon as I removed the stuff that accumulated, it was sucking once again.
I wondered if the vacuum would be worth the money and it is.

Dyson DC18 Slim All-Floors Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Last year when I asked for a new Bissell for Christmas, my husband and daughter insisted that I deserved the best vacuum cleaner available, so they bought me the Dyson DC18. For the first couple of months, I loved it (after I figured out the very vague instructions). Then it started catching on my berber carpet and ripped it up. It took several weeks to even get through to customer service. They told my husband that you're supposed to turn the beater bar off when vacuuming berber. (Thanks for not including that tidbit in your instruction book!)So I turned the beater bar off. Again, it ripped up not only the berber carpet, but a carpet runner in another room. We tried to take the vacuum to a local repair shop, and were told that no local shops are authorized to work on Dysons. Several more conversations with customer service later, we were told to take pictures of the carpet to prove our claim. My husband stated that I had trimmed off the pulled-up loops to avoid further damage. He was then told to have me vacuum the carpet again to CREATE MORE DAMAGE to be photographed. He refused. We were finally given the name of a repair shop in the next state that will take care of the problem. At least that's what they say. They have my Dyson now, and as far as I'm concerned, they can keep it. I'd love to get my money back from Dyson, so I can replace their piece of junk with a cheaper, more reliable vacuum that doesn't ruin my carpet.
Addendum 10 days later: We got the Dyson back from the local repair shop that was supposed to "take care of the problem." The customer rep there stated that there's nothing to be done, because "there's nothing wrong with the vacuum cleaner." Her next sentence was "You'll have to buy another vacuum cleaner, because you can't use this one." Then she tried to sell my husband another one.
I've filed a complaint against Dyson with the Better Business Bureau. Let's see where THAT goes.
Best Vaccum I've ever used... September 22, 2008 I was a bit skeptical, because of all the hype. I was using my old vacuum 3xs per week with very little dust being collected and here I think, it's just so clean...right? Well my vac broke and I had my eye on this dyson for while. Once I brought it home, I used it and I got things out of my cartpets as if I had never once vacuumed my home. I love it and if something on it breaks (which hasn't) I will certainly have it repaired and use it till it dissentigrates.. I love it!! (Great for allergies)
Power button broke already September 20, 2008 I bought the Dyson DC18 in April, 2007. I only used it maybe half a dozen times. Last Sunday, the power button broke. When I press down on it, the power comes on. When I remove my finger, the power goes off. I had to sent it off for repair. This is disappointing for a vacuum cleaner that cost $469.99. I had an inexpensive Kenmore that lasted over ten years without servicing. And the Kenmore will probably last another ten years without servicing.
Amazing Vacuum! September 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I absolutely love this vacuum. It is small, lightweight, and relatively quiet (at least compared to my old vacuum). The only two complaints I have is that it is sometimes difficult to turn off (you have to hit the button in a certain way) and it can be hard to set the vacuum in "stand up mode" because the latch doesn't always catch. Minor inconveniences, but not enough to deter me from recommending this vacuum to everyone.
