Plenty of zip in siphon, also looks great. Tastes great and fresh-I use filtered water from my refrigerator.

5 out of 5 stars Long lasting sparkling water   August 29, 2010

I use soda only to mix drinks. This siphon keeps the water fizzy for weeks. Solid construction and no off tastes.

5 out of 5 stars Works great. Needs a little technique.   August 11, 2010

To add to A. Abdine's review on how to properly use this thing:

If you're not careful when tightening on the CO2 cartridge loader, you lose a lot of CO2 and get poor results. You have to gently tighten the cartridge until just before it will be pierced to shoot gas into the canister. Then twist your arm and wrist awkwardly all the way around so that you can make one really big twist of the cartridge loader, so all in one motion the cartridge is pierced and tightly locked against the canister. If you don't do this and have to make a turn or two between the time the cartridge is pierced and when the seal is locked, you lose too much gas.

I get great results with the canister left in the freezer before filling. I also shake for a full minute after adding CO2, which is probably excessive, but it seems to work so why not.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent product and a money-saver   July 28, 2010

This is an excellent, high-quality product which makes delicious soda water and which will pay for itself in a month or two if you buy the Leland chargers in packs of 100.

The siphon is stylish and of restaurant quality workmanship and durability, and the Leland chargers lack nothing despite their relatively cheap price.

The water is so delicious that you may find yourself drinking it straight instead of going to sugary soft drinks. You may even drop a few pounds! (Although it must be said that the siphon's strong stream makes a mean egg cream....)

Some reviewers have said that the water doesn't come out bubbly enough, but this isn't the case if you follow the instructions. Simply make sure that the cap is tightly seated and that the water is ice cold. (Even if you don't recall your high school chemistry - that gases dissolve best in cold water, not hot - you know from experience that warm soda goes flat almost at once.) After the charging, shake the siphon vigorously to dissolve the gas, and you should have no problem.

One big advantage of any siphon is that you don't have to open it to get at the soda water. So the soda water doesn't go flat, as it does when you open and close large store-bought bottles.

Warning: If you don't seat the cap tightly on the bottle, you'll have spurting and leakage. So I recommend that, until you're completely comfortable with the operating procedure, you should practice at a safe distance from electrical equipment and anything else which doesn't get along well with water.
