5 out of 5 stars So Far Nice Little Grill   August 23, 2008
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

Hi everyone! So far I like this little grill. Before I bought it, I read both negative and positive reviews. Although I don't agree with some of the negative reviews, to each their own. I will say though, I will keep an eye out for the disappearing non stick coating. That's the only negative review that I'm taking seriously. I don't care that it only comes in red or that it is retro looking. I like it and everything I've cooked on it has turned out near perfect. Even though it doesn't have a bell that goes off when the food is done, all I do is set my oven timer and problem solved. So I don't have to stand over it the full time.

Now for some of my own pleasant experiences. I grilled some burgers and turkey patties. Both turned out great! Just 5 minutes for the beef, and a little longer for the turkey patties. The fat came draining out into the fat catcher. I've also made waffles. In my case I used Hungry Jack, followed the directions, used Pam, and cooked them for 4 minutes. I did three ladle fulls per side or enough to cover each side. They turned out great too! Old fashioned style, no sticking, lightly crisp and tender. Easy cleaning with soap, water, and a soft sponge.

The only thing I wish was a little different was being able to have some convienent side storage. Not a big deal, but just a suggestion.

I got my grill for $79.99. In this case it didn't come with a full on cookbook or a omelette plate. Personally I don't need either one, but if you do want them, you can get it all at a higher price. Mine came with the 5 plates and a leaflet that had a small recipe guide for times.

If anything negative does happen I will be sure to post it. Until then I will keep enjoying my grill.

Best wishes.

4 out of 5 stars George Foreman Grill   August 19, 2008

I received my grill last week and just used it twice today. I like it very much as I made grilled chicken and a Cuban Panini that came out excellent. I have one problem, when I received it, the handle was bent and it wasn't from shipping, but decided not to send it back. The other thing, I was checking things out and discovered that this exact grill in other stores comes with a cookbook, bonus omelet pans and cleaning sponges. The price varied from store to store but in the ballpark, and with Amazon you don't get the bonus items of which you have to pay extra. Not sure what the nice cookbook is worth but the omelet pans are $12.99 and cleaning sponges are $4.99 on here. I did receive free shipping and the lower price with Amazon, but be careful as in some of the stores you pay a few dollars more but get extra items included.

Pros: Good combination grill (panini, waffles, grilling meats etc), easy to clean, large cooking surface, quick delivery, lower price.

Cons: Handle was bent (not from shipping), no cookbook or bonus items included as sold in local stores.

4 out of 5 stars Easy to use, convenient, but with some set backs   August 12, 2008

Back in college I had the old George Foreman grill which was fantastic in the dorm rooms. Years later I wanted to buy another one seeing as how my old grill was just nasty. I was pleased to see that you can take off the plates on this new grill and clean it readily or even place in the dishwasher. The grill heats up extremely quickly with different settings (low, med, high heat). With the product comes a booklet which gives suggestions for heat setting + time of cooking for pretty much everything you grill which comes in handy.
However, the first 5-6 times I used this grill, there was this extremely acrid, burnt-plastic smell that occured. It slowly went away with each usage but that smell lingered throughout my apartment and that is basically the main reason I did not give this product five stars.
One thing to keep in mind is that you still need to clean the plates off each time of use. Any liquid or solids left on the plates can slowly eat away at the non-stick surface much like any other non-stick product. I would also recommend cleaning it gently because these plates can get scratches on them.
The product says "5 interchangeable plates" but 2 of them are for waffles (top and bottom plates).

1 out of 5 stars VERY HARD TO CLEAN TOP GRILL   August 3, 2008

very hard to clean top steak plate. suprised they didn't realize that. Stick to the regular foreman grills, if your looking for easy cleaning.

Also, thing smells a lot like plastic when you bring it to high heat with the lid closed to warm it up.

Also, it tends to cook things real dry.

I think the traditional foreman grills are the best. stick to that.

Amazing device! I have had the GRP4P for a year now, after daily scrubbings the coating at the edges has worn off a bit, still works great though. Got the G5 from Target yesterday with the Omlette/Snack plate included. Pancakes away!
