Given it's size and power consumption, this is very efficient device. It does a great job of distributing its light in a way that is easy on the eye and useful. It's very easy to read and play cards with this lamp. My only beef, and this is very minor, is that the battery holder is somewhat awkward to install but this unit really shines as a small lighting device. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

The picture and specs of this item on Amazon state 70 Lumens, and 72 hours, but the package that I received states 55 LUMENS FOR 16 HOURS, and 22 LUMENS FOR 35 HOURS. Other than the misleading specs, the lantern is very useful. It puts out enough light for a small room.
Perfect for lighting your tent August 3, 2010

Recently purchased this light and took it on a camping trip, the ability to remove the globe and use the bottom hook to hang it from our tent roof made this a great light. It was very bright in the tent and made it easy to find things. The blinking light by the power button also helps when you are looking for it in the dark. The kids used it to light the way to the bathrooms during the night and they said it worked well. For the price and the small size we love it.

I think I'll order a second of these. I haven't had mine long enough to evaluate battery life, but the light output, hanger hook, removable diffuser and hi/lo power option make this a very nice lantern at this price. I also like the small size and light weight.
I don't think the tiny, flashing led to help locate the lantern in the dark is necessary. Also, the "carrying handle" is kinda silly... the lantern doesn't get hot and you can easily hold/carry it in your hand without the handle. That said, neither the flashing led nor the carrying handle hurt anything, so I'm sticking with my 5 star rating.
Oh, and removing the bottom, inserting batteries and replacing the bottom seemed logical and obvious to me; and I am no genius. Darned if I know why some folks had so much trouble. The only "trick" in replacing the bottom is to make sure the little slot in the screw-on bottom is lined up with the tab inside the battery compartment. That feature assures the battery contacts will be lined up correctly.
Buy one, you'll like it!
